Isis Horne Hill
Hello!
I am a mixed settler/ member of the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte, living and working on Treaty 7 Territory. I was raised by a young, single mother whose punk ethos and environmental values shaped my early relationship to the world. I spent much of my childhood outdoors learning through observation, care, and proximity to land and living systems.
My practice focuses on printmaking and painting, with an ongoing interest in light, shadow, and liminal space. I approach materials as emotional and narrative carriers, using them to explore memory, collective experience, and the quiet residues of lived events. My work is informed by experiences of adversity and the broader impacts of colonialism, approached not as fixed subjects but as forces that shape individuals and communities in subtle, relational ways.
I am interested in storytelling as a means of opening difficult conversations—holding fear, grief, tenderness, and uncertainty without resolving them. Working through investigation, repetition, and careful observation, my practice prioritizes atmosphere and feeling over conclusion.
Alongside my studio practice, I collaborate with my families small indigenous business Okwaho Fashion. Outside the studio I consistently investigate fairytales and odd events, hang with my cats Havok & Nyhm, participate in ecological volunteering, and general tending to my hoard of houseplants.
All my love always,
Isis ♡
